If you are an Eargo 5 or Eargo 6 app user, you can expect a software update to arrive the week of February 13th. Why all the hoopla? Because this software update will deliver:

  • Better app remote control performance. Some clients reported that their hearing devices didn’t always respond to remote control commands like changing the volume or program, especially in noisy situations. Others told us that their phone didn’t play nicely with our remote control feature. This update offers improvements to both, so install the new version then experience these improvements for yourself! 

  • Better audible indicators. We heard from you that our tonal and spoken program indicators (e.g., “Program Three”, “Restaurant”) were a little bit louder than desired when in quiet, and softer than desired when in noise. We’ve tweaked them to make them a bit softer in quiet situations and to make them get louder as the environment around you gets louder.

  • Better Sound Match performance. Have you used Sound Match to self-fit your hearing aids yet? If not, install the update then tap Menu/Sound Match to start.

Here are some tips to ensure a smooth software update:

  • Ensure that your phone and charger are at least 25% charged. If they’re not, plug them in and then wait until you have at least 25% charge on both before starting the update.

  • Plan for about 30 minutes for it to complete. The app update can take up to 30 minutes, so make sure you start it when you have the time to complete it. Can’t update right away? Don’t worry - you can still use your Eargos without running the update, but you won’t be able to use the mobile app until it’s updated. 

  • Leave your phone near your charger. Don’t start the update if you’re about to Facetime with family or friends! Plan to leave the phone near the charger throughout the update so they can communicate via Bluetooth.

  • Plan to be without your hearing devices during the update. The hearing devices must remain in the charger during the update, so start the update when you know you can be without them for up to 30 minutes.

Here’s what to expect to see in the mobile app once the update is available:

Select ‘Update Software Now’ then follow the in-app prompts. While the update is running, you’ll see the estimated time remaining counting down. Make sure you don’t remove your devices from the charger until the mobile app tells you, ‘Software Successfully Updated’ and you see the app’s home screen (below).

That’s it! You can safely remove your devices from the charger at that point and go back to hearing life to the fullest!
