GENERAL HEARING LOSS & HEARING AIDS

Signs of hearing loss may include: turning up the TV or radio higher than what others prefer, experiencing the perception that others mumble, asking people to repeat themselves often, and more. You might also find yourself leaning forward to hear a conversation or having trouble hearing in noisy situations, like in a crowded restaurant. We offer a convenient hearing screening online, available by clicking here. Don’t wait if you believe you may have hearing loss.

Hearing loss ranges from mild to profound based on the degree of the loss of hearing measured from normal. The signs of hearing loss vary based on the degree and type of hearing loss. For example, if you have mild to moderate hearing loss, you may be able to understand speech in quiet environments but have greater difficulty hearing when there is background noise. However, if you have severe to profound hearing loss, it may be almost impossible to communicate in daily situations without hearing aids, cochlear implants, and/or the use of sign language. Different types of hearing aids help with different degrees of hearing loss. Eargo hearing aids are designed to help primarily with mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss, which is usually due to wear and tear on your ears from noise exposure or aging. Our convenient hearing screening can help you find out if an Eargo hearing aid can help you.

Sensorineural hearing loss is very common and is due to damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve from noise exposure, genetics, and natural aging. It develops over time and may sneak up on you. Hearing aids can usually help with this type of hearing loss and Eargo hearing aids are designed to help you get back into the conversation.

Conductive hearing loss is due to conditions that blocks the sound as if your ear is stuffed. It is often sudden or unexpected and all sounds are muffled or blocked in one or both ears. We recommend that you visit your doctor if you believe your hearing loss may be conductive, especially because conductive hearing loss may be temporary or treatable.

Although it’s not always necessary to see your doctor when you’re experiencing a hearing loss, there are some instances when you absolutely should. If you experience a sudden hearing loss, pain, balance issues, ear pressure, drainage, or other medical symptoms related to your ears, we recommend you visit your doctor. In addition, if your hearing loss is severe to profound, we encourage you to visit your doctor. Don’t forget to check back in with us if your doctor recommends a hearing aid to see if an Eargo hearing aid might be right for you.

Hearing loss can have a huge effect on your overall health and well-being. There are even studies linking untreated hearing loss to unemployment and lower income. It’s important to take care of your hearing health to keep it in the best shape possible, just like you take care of the rest of your body. Hearing aids are proven to help you overcome the stress and frustration of hearing loss and enhance your overall quality of life.

Tinnitus is often described as a ringing, buzzing, or hissing in the ears. We don’t know the exact cause of tinnitus, but there is a high correlation between tinnitus and hearing loss. If you are experiencing ringing, buzzing, or hissing in your ears, we recommend you visit your doctor. Your doctor may suggest a hearing aid since hearing loss and tinnitus often go hand in hand. Although a hearing aid doesn’t mask the tinnitus, it may help you focus on what you want to hear. Check back with us if your doctor recommends a hearing aid, to see if an Eargo hearing aid might be right for you.

Hearing aids help bring back the sounds you’ve been missing, especially the clarity of voices. Hearing aids help you get back into the conversation and improve your quality of life overall. Most people have no idea how many sounds have been missing from their life until they begin using quality hearing aids like Eargo. Hearing aids increase the clarity of speech by boosting the sounds you need to hear so you’re able to understand more easily. That means the conversation will go from sounding muffled to sounding clear, so you can be the sharpest version of yourself.

All hearing aids have a microphone, a digital amplifier, and a speaker. The microphone picks up sounds and sends them to the amplifier, which is actually a tiny digital processor that selects which sounds to make clearer and which sounds to ignore. It then gives those important signals a boost before pushing them through the speaker. The end result? Crisper, clearer sound with better understanding.

If you have hearing loss in both ears, then absolutely yes. Wearing two hearing aids helps you identify where sounds are coming from. It can also help make the conversation even clearer and easier to understand, especially in noisy environments.

Hearing loss is not just about you hearing less. It's also about the impact it can have on your quality of life. Those experiencing hearing difficulties may also:

  • Skip out on social situations that they once enjoyed because of difficulty hearing.
  • Feel tired or stressed from straining to hear the conversation.
  • Feel annoyed or frustrated at others because they can’t understand them.
  • Feel embarrassed to meet new people or from misunderstanding what others are saying.

Ensuring good hearing health helps to promote the quality of life you deserve. If you ever feel some of these negative feelings are being provoked as a result of your hearing—or lack thereof—it’s perhaps a good time to contact Eargo to learn more. We have a team of experts to help guide you on your journey. There are many things that stress us out in today’s world, but hearing loss doesn’t have to be one of them.

Eargo hearing aids and other hearing aids sold online, as well as most models you’ll find in a doctor’s office or a hearing aid retailer, are medical devices regulated by the FDA. While the FDA has exempted most hearing aid devices from premarket approval or clearance, our hearing aids remain subject to requirements for manufacturer registration and device listing, as well as FDA regulations on standards for performance, manufacturing, labeling, and safety.

Most other options sold online are PSAPs or general amplifiers that make everything louder, not clearer. PSAPs are not hearing aids and don’t have to meet the same standards.

Absolutely! Eargo prides itself on providing decades of hearing health experience from our team of highly trained team of experts. The first step is a one-on-one call with one of our Personal Hearing Guides, who will ask targeted questions to understand your hearing ability and lifestyle, and to see if Eargo hearing aids are right for you. You may also speak to one of our hearing professionals if you have more detailed questions. When placing your order for Eargo hearing aids, you'll be scheduled for a Welcome Call with one of our hearing professionals, who will make certain you get the most out your Eargo hearing aids. Your hearing professional can even make remote programming adjustments to your Eargos. This support lasts for the lifetime of your Eargo product.

Our hearing screening is tailored to help you with your decision on the selection and use of an Eargo hearing aid and is not a hearing evaluation performed by an audiologist. Eargo's hearing screening is available online by clicking here and is a unique approach to quickly see if you might benefit from Eargo hearing aids. Our hearing screening is unique because it examines your ability to hear in noise, which is the situation most people find challenging. The hearing screening is combined with a detailed conversation of your hearing with an Eargo hearing expert, offering reassurance on your selection of Eargos and to help you successfully use them.

Many first-time users find it a helpful step to start with a sample kit. Our sample kit includes a free brochure packed with information about Eargo hearing aids and 2 non-working replicas of our devices, so you can see how small they are and feel the comfort of our patented Flexis. We send these to you at no charge after you speak with one of our expert team members and confirm your mailing address so that you can make sure Eargos are right for you and your lifestyle.

Eargo devices are hearing aids - Exempt medical devices registered with the FDA and subject to FDA regulations on standards for performance, manufacturing, labeling, and safety. Most other options sold online are amplifiers – “Personal Sound Amplifiers” or PSAPs. They are general amplifiers that make everything louder and do not have to meet the same standards as hearing aids. By their definition, PSAPs are meant to amplify environmental sounds for “non-hearing-impaired” consumers.
