MORE POWER TO YOU: THE EARGO CHARGER

BY JENNIFER GILLIGAN, AU.D. - JANUARY 26, 2022

Our iconic charger—it’s the first thing you’ll see when you open up the packaging. It’s pocketable, portable, protective, and powerful. And if you’re already a customer, you already know that it’s more than ‘just a charger’.

While it’s easy to fall in love with the ergonomic form factor, you’ll also love and appreciate all of the functionality of the charger.

Let’s take a look at the various things your Eargo charger can do to keep you hearing life to the fullest.

  1. Store and recharge your hearing aids. It’s where we recommend you keep your Eargos when they’re not in your ears. Eargo Max, Eargo Neo and Eargo Neo HiFi all use contact charging and take about six hours to charge fully. For Eargo 5, Eargo 6, and Eargo 7, our new contactless system uses inductive charging technology to boost depleted hearing devices to full in just about 2.5 hours!

Inside the empty Eargo 5, Eargo 6, or Eargo 7 chargers you’ll see a white horseshoe LED light around each cradle. When you put your hearing device into its cradle to charge, you’ll feel a slight and satisfying pull as it settles neatly into place. The same goes for the charger’s lid—pop it on and it will securely attach, magnetically. Once the devices are charging, you’ll see white LED indicators illuminate to let you know how much juice remains in each device, and the status (pulsing equals charging).  These helpful lights time out after about 10 seconds, but don’t worry – the charger is still working (it’s just being polite).

  1. On-the-go functionality. The charger has its own built-in battery and can charge your hearing devices cordlessly! Use the Eargo-supplied, custom cable and plug to charge the charger and it will be fully juiced up in about 4 hours. Once full, you can bring it with you wherever your day may take you: hiking, dining, to the office, the golf course, or even a weekend away.  The charger will provide up to at least one additional charge of the hearing devices before it needs to be recharged again.  The white light around the USB connector will flash when it’s time to plug it back in.  And, if you’re not going anywhere, it’s safe/recommended to keep the charger plugged into a power source indefinitely!
  1. Eargo Mobile App. The charger uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology to pair with the Eargo mobile app so you can customize and personalize your Eargos to your hearing and listening preferences. Once paired, you can personalize your hearing aids to your hearing with Sound Match, so that whether you’re dining, in a meeting, or watching TV you can be sure you get the best experience.

Wait, what?! The charger does this? Yes! The charger facilitates the connection between our mobile app, your phone, and your Eargo 5, Eargo 6, or Eargo 7 system. Once you’re set up and your hearing aids are in your ears, you can run Sound Match to set your individual listening preferences for each ear. It takes about 10 minutes, and ensures your listening experience is optimized and personalized for each ear—no matter which programs you choose to use.

  1. Software Updates via the App. By now you may be wondering if there’s anything the charger can’t do. And while there is, let’s focus on one more innovative thing that it can do— accept and apply updates to both the hearing aid software and the charger’s own software (firmware). This means that if we have an improvement for your specific devices, you may have access to it over-the-air. Simply follow the prompts, if you receive any, that are inside of the mobile app to apply the updates.

So, when is a charger not just a charger? When it’s an Eargo charger. That’s part of the Eargo difference.
